One can combat cancer in two ways – physically and mentally. Physically there is the doctor’s medication to battle the disease but the prescription for the mental remedy has to be written by you.
You can try some of these therapies.
- Stay around people who make you happy. This will help you feel positive and comforted.
- Contact and meet-up with a support group. These can be formed by people with the same kind of ailments. Alternatively, you can call up any non-profit cancer organization and get a counseling session to ease your mind.
- Share your worries and anxieties with friends and family. This will relieve some of your mental burdens and make you feel better and stronger.
- Take up a new hobby or brush up on your old one. If you are passionate about something, this is the time to pursue it to relax your mind and keep it preoccupied.
- Listen to music that rejuvenates you. Soothing music is food for the tired soul; this will help you rest and bring peace into your life.
- Watch movies. Make sure to watch all the fun movies that will make you laugh; don’t burden your heart with sob stories.
- Read books that make you laugh. Funny books can lift your spirits, so enjoy them while you are undergoing treatment.
- Write diary entries. This is a great way to purge your heart of all unhappiness and apprehension.
- Go on a low-information diet. Too much information is often flawed; avoid it and only rely on your doctor.
- Notice the mercy drops falling from heaven. Small beauties of nature and little acts of faith can instill new hope in your life.
- Meditate often and as a habit. This will relieve your mind and body and help you gain control over yourself.
- Laugh as much as you can. It’s no exaggeration to say that this is the best medicine; don’t hesitate to try liberal doses of it.
- Hone your social skills. Meet more people, talk to them, and participate in the social milieu.
- Keep your mind active and alert. An empty mind is burdened; fill it with happy and meaningful stuff.
- Stay active and perform light exercises. This will not only keep your body strong but also help fight stress and depression. However, remember to consult your doctor before you start a fitness regime.
- Eat healthy. Even if your appetite is poor, consume essential nutrients. You need healthy, protein-rich food to balance the medicines entering your body.
- Drink plenty of water. Cancer patients are prone to dehydration, and water removes toxins from the body.
- Believe that you are no different from others. You simply have a disease and are undergoing treatment.
- Never blame yourself for what has happened to you. Past actions can’t be undone, so just look ahead and forget those mistakes.
- Accept the changes and move on. You may have undergone a physical and emotional transformation; now, learn to live with it. Get back to your daily activities and enjoy life.
When you live positively, you can spread light in the lives of those around you and extend the good cheer to all who need it.
