Often I’ll find myself staring blankly at my computer screen or pad of paper.
I’m lost. Confused. Thoughtless.
In the hopes of remedying the all-too-often state of writers block; I thought I’d share with you some ways to battle the terrible ailment.
- Take a nap
- Take a walk
- Play with your children (or dogs or strangers)
- Make a sandwich
- Take your notebook outside
- Call a good friend
- Stack some wood
- Train your dog
- Read a book
- Disappear
- Go jogging
- Flip on your favorite TV show
- Watch an inspiring movie (like Rocky)
- Fix something broken in your home
- Answer some emails and block spammers
- Read your favorite blog
- Book a fantasy cruise
- Grab your camera and shoot
- Hit the gym
- See how quickly you can eat a dozen donuts
- Drive around town and find yourself a thinking spot
- Read the news
- Pick a random subject and write about it for five minutes without stopping
- Make a list of things you’re grateful for
- Serve someone
- Read scripture
- Pray
- Thank someone
- Move to Twitter for a few minutes
- Check Facebook
- Find a favorite online service and donate a few dollars
- Defragment your hard drive
- Research a foreign topic
- Visit city centers and people watch
- Eat some good food
- Gaze at the clouds (or stars)
- Tell someone you love them
- Doodle
- Build a small investment portfolio
- Battle someone in Halo or another game of choice
- Practice your penmanship
- Close your eyes and meditate
- Think about nothing

- Dust your computer (the inside will need it too I’m sure)

- Subscribe to news feeds
- Laugh maniacally in frustration
- Sing the alphabet
- Imagine your favorite nature scene
- Mentally tell yourself it will be okay
- Do one hundred push-ups
- Crunch those abs
- Brush your teeth
- Lay in bed for 5 minutes and redo your morning routine
- Check to be sure your bathroom is stocked up on tp
- Name your computer
- Alphabetize your book collection
- Visit your favorite restaurant
- Tip the waiter above the usual
- Put yourself in the shoes of a famous person
- Fingerpaint
- Create a new account on a new social media platform you’ve been neglecting
- Save your writing for a new day and forget about it
- Smell a flower
- Light a candle and watch it burn
- Tidy up your blog’s about page
- Read again what you’ve already written
- Print a few cherished photos and place them in prominent locations
- Read motivational quotes and write your favorites on note-cards
- Replenish your supply of paper clips
- Eat something you really don’t like the taste of
