The stars. The universe. We’re beholden to all, as tiny creatures in a vast, immeasurable space.
From the time I was a young boy, I’ve always held a deep fascination for space. I like thinking about space, I like watching movies and television covering space, and I read the latest news related to space discoveries. Although I’ve always known I was never going to be smart enough to be an astronaut, it gives me great joy to watch updates from scientists aboard the International Space Station.
To give me a better background on the subject of astrophysics, I grabbed a copy of Astrophysics for People in a Hurry by the great mind and thinker Neil DeGrasse Tyson. It’s a quick read of only 222 pages, and Tyson moves the book along in a conversational fashion. I spent fifteen minutes a day in the sun reading the book and was finished quickly.
Questions are answered by Neil DeGrasse Tyson along the way when reading Astrophysics for People in a Hurry:
- What is the nature of space and time?
- How do we fit within the universe?
- How does the universe fit within us?
What I loved most about the book is that it’s constructed to build upon your knowledge brick by brick, with a solid foundation. You start at the proposed beginnings of universe to now, all while learning about the nuances of quarks, cosmos, planets and more. Each chapter you move through brings you to another layer that builds the construction of the universe — astrophysics.
All in all, the book is brought to a truthful core by the end — that we are all humans on this planet stuck together with no way out, and we much each in our own capacity do our part to make living on this planet more pleasurable for all.
