Fixins Oak Park Soul Kitchen puts together some of the tastiest food.
From fried chicken to gumbo to coleslaw, Fixins Soul Kitchen provides delicious food items while celebrating the traditions and history of African American culture. Fixins is located in the 40 Acres Cultural Complex at the Broadway and 35th Street corner with an inviting appeal and entrance.
Anytime we’ve ever passed by Fixins Soul Kitchen on the way home there has pretty much always been a line out the door, near opening or closing time. We had a DoorDash coupon code on hand, and were thrilled to choose and try Fixins for the first time! Fried chicken is a food favorite.
What to order at Fixins Oak Park Soul Kitchen?
For our order, we didn’t stray too far from first trying the staple fried chicken—three pieces of chicken that have been 24-hour brined and fried. You can choose from Chef’s choice for your chicken pieces, white or dark meat, breast, wing, leg, thigh, or chicken tender. Other entrees include fried catfish, chicken and waffles, shrimp n grits, and smothered oxtails or pork chops. I can’t wait to try them all!
If you don’t want fried chicken, catfish or gumbo, other handheld options are available like burgers, and chicken and fish sandwiches.
As fixins or sides to go with the entrees, we tried coleslaw, french fries, mac n cheese, and potato salad. Black eye peas, candied yams, charred okra, cheese grits, and more are also available as fixin choices.
The flavor of all the food lived up to all the hype and can say, move out of the way KFC. This is REAL fried chicken. Fixins also has a wide range of sauces, and I absolutely adored their dill ranch dressing. It’s simply divine! Oh, and I can’t forget. The biscuits! So, so perfectly cooked and flaky in all the best ways.
