Recently it was my pleasure to interview Susan Blake of Today’s Path, a blog teaching others how to get on a path of wellness and health.

Do you remember your first experience with the internet?

My first experience with the internet was sending an email. I held off as long as I could doing it because I was a fan of letters in the mail – the real mail – and I knew those days were going to be history. Indeed they are!

How did you learn about blogging?

Curiosity drove me into checking out just what a blog was because I kept hearing about them on tv. Once I went to a blog directory and spent a day reading blogs I was hooked. I thought it would be a great way to feel published all the time and “out there”. I can’t tell you how shocked I was to get comments and followers when I started two years ago.

What drives you to continually produce passionate content?

My passion has always been making healthy choices, researching nutritional information, and creating interesting meals that were jam-packed with nutrients. I was raised on a farm that was organic before we even had heard the word. I was also raised with herbs, not drugs, whenever I was sick. So you see, I’ve had this background. To go to school for natural health was, in a word, natural for me.

The health and wellness of most people today is one sad thing. People get confused by media reports which doesn’t help, but so many symptoms and diseases are totally preventable through diet and proper nutrients. My blog is all about that and trying to show people they really can improve their health with good food choices. I sure hope it is quality content because it comes from the heart and many years of study. What better motivation than to know you just might be helping someone? That sure does it for me!

In what ways do you believe social media will grow and change this coming year?

Christian, I’m so blown away by the social media. It offers people so many opportunities today. I really couldn’t say where it is going to take us but it sure is here to stay. I do think it’s a shame such young kids are addicted to it though. They aren’t doing “kid” stuff because they are too busy texting!

Any advice for new bloggers?

My advice to new bloggers would be to write what you know, or find a topic you yourself want to learn more about and write about that. I’ve been a free-lance writer for 40 years and was told that advice when I first started out. I’ll stand by that, even for blogs. There are plenty of blogs out there that really aren’t worth the time of the click. Don’t be one them!
