Across from the State Capitol Park World Peace Rose Garden sits Ma Jong’s Asian Diner at 1431 L St, Sacramento.

This restaurant is a guilty pleasure on any night when craving something fast, fun, and a few steps above Panda Express — offering Asian eats in Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, and Chinese flavors.

Favorite appetizers at Ma Jong’s include chicken lettuce cups and crab wontons, while favorite entrees include Ma’s special chow mein and Mongolian beef. Apart from these, the menu remains extensive, with many rice, noodle, and soup options.

After ordering you sit down with a number, and are quickly served your food. Grab fortune cookies, refills, Sriracha, and more any time at the self-serve bar. I also enjoy the relaxed atmosphere at Ma Jong’s Asian Diner, where you can sit at a table, or relax in one of the cushioned corner spaces lined with pillows.

You know you can trust a place when there’s a cop eating in the wide-open dining space virtually every time you visit.

Although I may be a bit biased since it’s just two blocks from my apartment, Ma Jong’s is one of those trusty places that stands strong, ready to deliver, without fail, to the local Sacramento customer. Tired? Drunk? Sad? Happy? Dine until 2:30 am on the weekends.

This place is yours.
