MacDuff’s Pub (MacDuff’s Public House) in South Lake Tahoe is your answer to authentic Scottish pub food and drinks.

Sitting off Fremont Avenue, MacDuff’s Pub is housed in a little cottage with great beers on tap, delicious shepherd’s pie, and other English food offerings.

Outside the pub on the deck, near a quaint front lawn, also sits outdoor tables inside individual glass greenhouses (during the winter and early spring). The outside tables are dog-friendly, so you can bring your pup to enjoy lunch or dinner.

We visited MacDuff’s Pub in the spring, and the weather was lovely.

In the top window of MacDuff’s, I also loved seeing the Lost Coast Brewery neon sign, a nod to the great brewery we’ve visited a few times up in Eureka, CA.

Appetizers at MacDuff’s Public House

Getting appetizers at MacDuff’s Pub is an experience all its own.

As much as I wanted to try their New England clam chowder, I seem always to make that pick, so I tried something different to expand my horizons.

To start, we enjoyed buttermilk fried calamari, which is served with a homemade cocktail and tartar sauce. Perfectly crunchy and perfectly delicious.

Our second appetizer was the artichoke spinach dip that is presented alongside wood-fired pesto flatbread, carrots, and celery. Ooh boy, I loved this one! The three of us at the table obliterated the platter within a few minutes.

The Real Shepherd’s Pie at MacDuff’s Pub

Not every establishment that serves shepherd’s pie serves it authentically.

MacDuff’s Pub has you covered.

Filled with fresh-ground lamb, carrots, onion, celery, peas, gravy, and a potato crust, the Real Shepherd’s Pie delivers an experience that fully satisfies you. Flattened to flush on its top side, the Real Shepherd’s Pie has a hearty texture and, with undertones of Worcestershire sauce, is full of flavor.

Aside from their well-known shepherd’s pie, other entrees at MacDuff’s include a chicken pot pie, shrimp and chips, steak and Guinness stew (I really want to try this one), corned beef, and cabbage, and various wood-fired pizza.
