The Grand Waikiki Hotel is a great hotel that’s right on the northern end of Waikiki, right next to the Honolulu Zoo.

We rented a private condo in the Grand Waikiki – as some of the units are owned by the establishment, and some are owned privately. Our specific Airbnb was great – and prompt in answering any questions. We did laundry part way through our stay right at the Grand Waikiki – which was helpful, and the unit had some ocean gear we were able to use and bring over to the beach. Each unit is different when it comes to offerings, so be sure to read your unit’s Airbnb rental information thoroughly before booking.

Our particular unit was also lots of fun – as it was right above Hula’s Bar – so we could be louder the entire time through the trip.

In terms of location, the Waikiki Grand Hotel is in a tremendous spot — as you’re somewhat removed from the major hustle and bustle of Waikiki, but within walking distance of all it has to offer. We were able to quickly walk to restaurants, the beach and more.

Visiting Hula’s Bar & Lei Stand

We visited Hula’s Bar and Grill the first night of our visit – and I had a great time.

People bought us drinks – and even when it was raining like crazy around the island, you could still have a wonderful time on the balcony. I’m always getting my standard gin and tonic – so I can’t comment on any of their specialty drinks. The best part of Hula’s Bar & Lei Stand is that the whole bar has an open side that overlooks the Honolulu Zoo and beaches off of Waikiki.

Food, dancing and live music throughout the week, Hula’s is one of the popular stops for the LGBTQ crowd in Honolulu.

If we visit Waikiki again, we’ll stay at the Grand Waikiki once more. Huge value for any traveler on a budget!
