Wave Street Cafe sits off Cannery Row in Monterey Bay overlooking El Torito — with locals and tourists in the mix, meandering down the neighboring Monterey Peninsula Recreational Trail and Cannery Row in full view. They serve breakfast, lunch, espresso, beer, and wine. For to-go orders, call 831-718-8171. Kids menu served too!
We had recently left my aunt’s home in Pacific Grove mid-morning and decided we needed a rest stop and fuel before driving north to San Francisco. We parked curbside and found our way to Wave Street.
Celebrating my 30th, I ordered a peach bellini—robust, colorful, and full of flavor. While sipping, I looked over the Monterey Bay, probably adding favor to its spell.

Get me the Wave Street Cafe eggs benedict.
I’m a massive fan of one thing — eggs benedict. I ordered the Classic Benedict. Canadian bacon, two poached eggs atop an English muffin, chef’s daily hand-whipped lemony-buttery hollandaise, and breakfast potatoes. So buttery and so tasty. I may have been able to eat a third slice of English muffin and egg, but potentially greedy.
Barrett enjoyed a tuna melt. Albacore tuna salad, tomato, melted cheddar, with grilled sourdough. I had a bite. It delivered what was to be expected on a bed of moist tuna with toasty sourdough.
Breakfast sausage, please?
Apart from our entrees, I ordered a side of breakfast sausage. I have a particular spot in my heart and gut for popping, fatty breakfast sausage. Slightly smoky and bursting with flavor, I was happy I ordered.
Ultimately, with a noble view and rustic, Tuscan atmosphere, Wave Street Cafe off the Monterey Bay coast was a spot I’m glad we visited. On our return trip to the area, I’d stop by again.
