Are you looking for ways to stay motivated when you work from home?
Working from home can sometimes feel dull and uninspiring. It’s the same each day, and you don’t have coworkers in-person to help keep you motivated.
After working from home for over ten years, my entire professional life, I’ve found many ways to keep yourself pushing forward and working through each day successfully.
There Are Many Ways To Stay Motivated When You Work From Home
Mindset is everything when you work from home.
Similar to working in-office, working from home takes dedication, focus, and effort — and with a few tweaks, you’ll find your productivity soar.
- Put On An Outfit Each Morning — Dressing in a full outfit in the morning is an excellent way to up your inspiration throughout the home workday. If you only wear pajamas each day, it can be easy to slip into a slower, lazier mindset. Don’t forget to brush your teeth in the morning too to feel fresh!
- Have An Office Space — Set aside a space in your home only for working to keep your work and home life separate.
- Wear Shoes Inside — If you’re up for it, I’ve found that wearing shoes indoors when you work from home during your work hours helps to keep you motivated and inspired. Put on your shoes when you start work and take them off when you’re ready to relax at the end of the day. Select a pair of shoes to only wear inside and nowhere else if you’re concerned with cleanliness.
- Take Short, Frequent Breaks — Taking short, frequent breaks is crucial to working from home and keeping your energy levels high. Work for a chunk of time, and then take a moment to rest your eyes, get up, and stretch. I’ve found that a few pushups or situps are a rewarding way to spend a 5-minute break from working.
- Get Your Work Done In the Morning — Especially if you live in a home with others, getting your work finished early in the morning will help boost your productivity. In the morning, you’re fresh and rested, and you’ll also find it easier to work without interruptions.
- Keep A Favorite, Healthy Beverage On-Hand — If you’re feeling a bit unmotivated during an afternoon of working from home, it can be helpful to sip on a favorite beverage. Lower calorie, healthy options are generally best. Although not the healthiest choice, I reach for black coffee in the afternoon but feel I need to find an alternative without caffeine. A beverage as simple as ice water can be a wonderful pick-me-up.
- Set Expectations With Housemates — Make sure those you’re sharing your space with have the same expectations as you regarding your work-from-home environment. If you have a specific time you work, make sure to make it known to your housemates so they can be considerate of times when you may require less noise.
Keep looking for different ways to stay motivated while working from home! Although it can be tricky to find balance when working from home, it’s a rewarding, fulfilling experience to have the flexibility to work from your resting space.
