At the age of 99, Betty White has passed.

In a world of turmoil, where up is down, and down is up, Betty kept us going—fueled with hope. Love. Joy.

Betty White was someone who lived and loved thoroughly and never backed down. To her dying, last day, hard at work, like a stalwart, trustworthy steed. She gave America and the world a glimmer of happiness with every appearance and performance.

We didn’t deserve Betty White, and the stars reclaimed her.

As a lynchpin actress to the hit series, The Golden Girls, she brought unabashed humor into the homes of families across the globe. Eventually, she became a symbol of freedom and personality for the LGBTQ+ community. Additionally, she was an avid protector of the animal world and loved all creatures, great and small, abundantly.

I remember seeing Betty White’s performance in “The Proposal” years ago and being completely enthralled by her magic. With such a magnetic character, she welcomed you into her presence with open arms, gave you a Grandma cuddle, and sent you on your way to go and create your path and personal beauty in life.

Why will we miss Betty White so much?

It’s ironic and wicked for 2021 to take Betty White from us, only weeks away from her 100-year-old birthday. The universe spoke, however, and has a cruel sense of humor.

For a world in such disarray, she was our Queen.

When so many pieces and parts of life seem unequivocally uncontrolled, it was Betty White’s life that gave us some form of sanity and safety. We always knew she was there, and we always knew what we would get from her: comfort, kindness, and a little laugh.

Now, with Betty White gone, we should put aside our differences, learn from her example, and thank a neighbor for “being a friend.” Life is much too short, and we must live it fully. As her character, Rose Nylund, would say best, “My mother always used to say: The older you get, the better you get, unless you’re a banana.”

Goodbye, Betty Marion White Ludden. We will miss you terribly.
