Broadway At Music Circus is a Sacramento tradition, and The Wiz is the last show I watched in the series at the Wells Fargo Pavilion.

It’s a bittersweet moment.

I’ve heard about this show since I was a child, and remember small moments from the TV adaption. There’s one word that describes how I feel about The Wiz — energetic.

The cast brought tremendous energy to the stage — Dorothy Gale, Scarecrow, Tin Man, The Lion, Glinda, The Wiz. All favorites that painted a memorable, fun, bouncy story.

Broadway At Music Circus follows the yellow brick road.

Once the troupe starts on the yellow brick road, the visual treats and beautiful songs begin to unfold. Favorite songs are “He’s the Wizard,” “Be a Lion, “So You Wanted to Meet the Wizard,” “Funky Monkeys”, and “Believe in Yourself.” With a different twist to what the wizard’s story, I enjoyed how The Wiz maintained his image.

And don’t forget the monkeys! Funny and thrilling. I’m only grateful that I’m older now and they aren’t as terrifying as they once were.

Act II brings continued trials for Dorothy and the support builds. You want her to succeed, along with her comrades, and get what they deserve and are looking for.

Conclusion

I’m grateful I purchased tickets to see the show. Now I have a face to the songs I remember and will need to pull up the old TV special and revisit.

Another favorite part about visiting Broadway At Music Circus is the ability to walk just a few blocks from home to get to the facility. I pop on my shoes, do my hair, and jump out the door.

At 28 I’m already old and enjoy amenities and comfort.

We aren’t seeing In the Heights, but we can’t wait until next year’s summer tradition at the Wells Fargo Pavilion!
