*** SPOILER ALERT ***

Confessions of a Shopaholic gives a full spectrum arc of the main character Rebecca, who learns to manage her addiction to shopping along the way of knowing more about love, life, and restraint.

She loves to shop a whole lot in her beloved New York City, but it comes at a tremendous cost. Fast-paced and frantic, Rebecca finds her world spinning out of control.

Chasing the Next Best Thing

Rebecca represents the materialistic, social-forward monster in all of us. Always looking for the next best thing. Searching for the next fashion piece to leave the soul fulfilled, or the subsequent media sensation, fixated for attention.

As she continues to chase her grandeur and materialistic delusion fantasies, she finds herself bound by insurmountable debt. As someone who has been in these shoes myself, I related to Rebecca’s feelings of loss, nervousness, and fear. It’s an overwhelming world to live beyond your means, and a big kick in the face when you finally decide to see your surroundings and make a change for the better.

Eventually, she learns to buckle down and keep her financial life in check.

Learning From Confessions of a Shopaholic

In the end, Rebecca finds a way to create a world more revolved around others instead of herself and reaps the rewards of a more satisfying and fulfilling life in the process.

As we go about our days, often obsessed with watching and lurking over others’ successes on social media and beyond, we must remember the value in centering life on the current moment and those that matter most.

The ones closest to us, family and supportive friends, are where we should focus time and talent — our most valuable resources here on earth.

There is always value in reformation.
