Shoki Ramen House off R Street in Downtown Sacramento is a little gem, serving traditional ramen bowls to locals and visitors alike.

As an appetizer, their fried gyoza is delicious — deep-fried pork and vegetable potstickers (six pieces) with original sauce. Spicy garlic edamame is another favorite from Shoki Ramen House, which has garlic bits, shoyu, and chili oil. We’ve also tried the creamy croquettes filled with crab.

When we lived within walking distance, we’d often visit Shoki Ramen House from our Downtown Sacramento apartment.

Main Courses at Shoki Ramen House

As the main course, I often get the shoyu ramen, which includes cabbage, chashu (2 pork slices), corn, hard-boiled egg, spinach, moyashi (bean sprouts), and naruto (three fish cake slices).

Barrett often gets the spicy kuro tonkotsu, which includes pork based ramen topped with corn, spinach, moyashi (bean sprouts), steamed cabbage, half hardboiled egg, chashu (two pork slices), fried garlic chips, mayu (black garlic oil), and red ginger.

I’ve also tried the spicy miso ramen before, including Tokyo-style miso base topped with corn, spinach, moyashi (bean sprouts), steamed cabbage, half hard-boiled egg, and chashu (two pork slices). Additionally, I’ve had the udon (thick white noodles) with topped green onions, wakame (seaweed), crisply onions with thick white noddles, and warm wadashi broth (traditional Japanese fish-stock broth).

If you want to try something different, curry rice is delicious and filling.
