Duke’s Waikiki off the Waikiki strip was absolutely delicious. The food was amazing. Favorite food experience of the trip.

We ate here prior to our anniversary night dinner – but I think this place would have served us best! I even had built up pre-expectations for this place, as it’s one of my parent’s favorites. With reservations, we were seated quickly – and expertly guided along with a beautiful eating experience by a fun and informative server.

The fun part of Duke’s is that you choose your fish “preparation” style – and then they have choice fish available depending on what’s in season.

We had the most delightful selection of food while at Duke’s Waikiki:

  • Poke Tacos — fresh raw ahi, shoyu, maui onions, chili flake, avocado, wasabi aioli
  • Sauteed mac nut and herb-crusted fresh fish — parmesan & panko dusted, lemon caper butter, basmati wheatberry rice
  • Kimo’s original hula pie — chocolate cookie crust, macadamia nut ice cream, hot fudge, toasted mac nuts, whipped cream

Want to know what the fish look like? Waiter whipped out this colorful chart showing the various fish you’re choosing. Hey! Not all people want to eat an ugly fish. I’ll eat an ugly fish, however, if it’s good.

Yoshitsune Restaurant at the Park Shore Waikiki Hotel

This place is old-fashioned Japanese food authentic.

You want sushi a Japanese Grandpa would eat? This is your place. Don’t come here if you want thrills and “Americanized” sushi with gallons of sugary sauce poured on everything. This is where you come to taste authentic sushi, and authentic fish, prepared the old-school way.

I particularly enjoyed the plain cucumber rolls – just a cucumber wrapped in sushi rice and with a bit of wasabi. Delicious!

Their miso soup was also divine.
