By combining SEO and Twitter promotion techniques it’s possible to produce copious quantities of traffic & leads towards online eCommerce sites for the selling of products. Through this simple tutorial, I’ll take you through some general information to get started in using SEO & Twitter to sell products online.

All play a part in each other, and by combining all – can produce powerful results. Read on!

The first area I’d like to discuss is SEO (e.g. Search Engine Optimization).

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the practice of designing/coding websites in order to have search engines favor them. It’s commonly thought that once your website is up & running, it will auto-magically be featured amongst the “top 10” in Google for any keyword. This, sadly, is far from the truth.

When a website is first created, without inbound links, it can take weeks for search engines to find that particular website or blog. It’s important to submit your site to take the time to submit your site to Google, link other sites to your new website, and use Twitter to promote your products.

As for SEO, it’s a wildly debated & intense subject – and encompasses an entirety far beyond the scope of this simple article. The most important areas in SEO I feel appropriate to mention are link building & keyword density. Every link that points to your site from another site is essentially a “vote” cast for your product. It tells search engines like Google that they trust you, your product & the content you’re producing.

The more links pointing to your site, the higher Google will begin ranking you.

Keyword density is also very important.

If you’re trying to rank high for a keyword such as purple widget, for example, this keyword phrase should be evident within your page. It should be used as the title, an H1 tag, as alt image text, amongst the main text, etc…It’s important to remember to never to “spam” search engines – and to make sure that you’re presenting your reader with the best experience.

Never add your keywords multiple times throughout, just because it will be better for search engines. Occasionally Google will find you out, and dock you points just for this tactic.

One last area I’d like to take a quick second to mention is content creation. Search engines LOVE content. The more content you produce, the better. This is why blogs always do so well in ranking high in search engines. When you’re producing posts and content on a daily basis, search engines are led to believe you’re not static, have something interesting to say – and in return – rank you higher.

Twitter is an area I find highly intriguing.

With a large Twitter following, it’s possible to promote & market affiliate products, as well as your own.

One area I’ve found much success is affiliate marketing. This is where you promote another person’s products and are paid a commission on each sale. Occasionally I’ll “tweet” to my community of followers a link to a product I feel is pertinent and important – and watch as sale conversions come streaming in. Amazon offers an affiliate program that works great. I’ll read a book pertaining to my Twitter topic, and then Tweet that book when finished. It can become a great way to produce a revenue stream.

Apart from affiliate marketing, Twitter is perfect for promoting products.

How to grow your Twitter “brand” and following is a very diverse topic, but it’s crucial to only Tweet items that are on topic and brand.

Followers don’t like getting Tweet after Tweet about things unrelated. If your Twitter account niche is based on technology – Tweet about technology. If it involves Golfing, Tweet about golfing. Share new links, give advice & get involved in the Twitter community.

Follow these steps, start experimenting – and grow your Twitter brand.
