Need a hit of coffee on the North Shore? Hit up Aloha Espresso!
A welcome retreat when there aren’t any Starbucks or many coffee shops near the very Latter-Day Saint town of Laie. It’s just a little stand among a little village of food trucks and huts. Need a Lighthouse book? Those are available too – save your soul while you wait for coffee!
Remember, Starbucks only exists in Haleiwa on the North Shore of Oahu – so grab your coffee here if you’re in need.
We grabbed a quick latte to give us a jolt after spending the full morning already adventuring around the island. After getting our lattes, we walked around and visited the other little food trucks and carts nearby and then warmed up in the car for a moment.
Eating Shrimp at Famous Kahuku Shrimp Truck
Nearby is the Famous Kahuku Shrimp Truck!
We visited right after visiting the Aloha Espresso stand. Only a few blocks down the road. It seems we always find ourselves at the most authentic food stops – so we quickly found ourselves surrounded by grandmoms and mothers. The regular garlic shrimp plate filled all my fantasies of shrimp trucks I had been waiting for and dreaming about. We probably ate garlic shrimp plates, conservatively, ten times while on our Hawaii trip. I can’t help it – they’re so good!
Stopping at Famous Kahuku Shrimp is a welcome retreat if you want to skip the long lines at Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck right next door. Giovanni’s shouldn’t be missed, but if you’ve had it before, Kahuku Shrimp works great too.
One drawback is that at this location – the shrimp aren’t peeled, even halfway, so you have to peel them first and then eat. Aside from peeling the shrimp, the garlic deliciousness is the best!
Shrimp are also available fried or steamed.
