Working on ways to purify air in your home or office not only lends to a more pleasant, odorless living environment but a healthier one too — just one of the reasons to have houseplants.
After years of living in tight spaces and working from home, I’ve tried many different remedies to ensure the air I’m breathing 24/7 is clean, decontaminated, and dust-free. By investing time and effort to clean the air, I’ve found my lungs are clearer, the dust has lessened, and odors virtually eliminated.

1. Bring Houseplants Into Your Space
Plants are the most natural way to clean the air in your living space.
Plants that do particularly well at filtering toxins out of the air like formaldehyde, benzene, and mold — include English ivy, snake plant, spider plant, peace lily, Boston fern, aloe vera, Chinese evergreen, and rubber plants.
Every few months, you can bring new houseplants into your living space and continually improve air quality.
2. Hide Air Purifying Bags (Charcoal) Around the House
Air purifying bags filled with charcoal are a great way to clean the air in your home or office while also improving any space’s overall smell.
If you have a closed space like a closet or car, air-purifying bags do well to lighten the stiff smell of stagnant air. I’ve tried both California Home Goods bamboo charcoal air purifying bags and MOSO NATURAL air purifying bags with excellent results.
To recharge the charcoal air purifying bags, lay them in the full sun every month for a day or two.
3. Plug-In An Electric HEPA Air Purifier
Air purifiers with HEPA filtration are a surefire way to rid your air of dust physically and airborne pollutants, although electricity costs are a downside.
Although we could probably keep a more extensive air purifier in our 620 square foot space, we use a Levoit-brand air purifier that is 8.5″ x 14.50″ inches and a cylinder.
