“To the world you may be just one person, but to one person you may be the world.” -Brandi Snyder

When a child is born an instant connection is forged between mother and offspring. Something that has the possibility of lasting and offering benefit to both parties involved. Friends have often been known for giving life and limb for another.

As bloggers we live in a virtual realm. Sometimes it’s difficult to show our care and support to others. Below are some ways to do so.

Read Their About Page

The very first thing I do before reading a blog is I first pop on over to the blogger’s about page. The about page will often tell you a few key details.

  1. Background of the blogger
  2. Credibility and experience in their niche
  3. Goal and mission of the blog
  4. What to expect from reading

*If you haven’t already done so – take the time to make your own about page special. Answer questions about yourself and blog. Share a personal story. Why are you special? What excites you? It’s your place to let your personality shine.

Comment on their blog!

Don’t comment for the sake of commenting.

I feel one of the easiest, and most valuable ways to connect with another blogger is to comment on their blog.

Through your comment offer valuable, useful information sharing your thoughts and opinions. Don’t comment for the sake of commenting. There’s no feeling in that – and bloggers will smell it a mile away.

Use Twitter like a Champ!

Twitter offers a priceless nest-egg of connectivity.

  1. Thank them for blog posts.
  2. Ask how their day is going.
  3. Tell others to follow them (e.g. Follow Friday).
  4. Tweet a response to their latest content.
  5. Answer Tweeted questions and thoughts.

Through its proper use you have the opportunity at your fingertips to connect in a myriad of ways with hundreds of thousands of bloggers.

Send a thank you note or email.

Something I’ve been doing lately is sending thank you notes. Each day I choose an individual to thank for their help, support and generosity in my life.

For the past couple of weeks I’ve also moved this to the blogging arena. Sometimes I’ll find a blogger whom I’ve enjoyed reading – and I’ll send them a thank you card in the mail. You may say it’s old fashioned; but trust me, everyone loves a handwritten thank you note.

This is also easily done through email. Simply shoot a blogger and email and thank him/her for all the work they’ve put into their blog – and for sharing their expertise and experience.

A thank you might go as follows:

Hey Cindi. I’ve been reading your blog for a few days now, and I wanted to simply thank you for that fantastic blog post you wrote yesterday. Some of the topics discussed have been on my mind lately, and you really helped to clear my head and get me back on track. Keep up the great work! Christian

The world is at your fingertips. Take this idea and run with it!

A few more “connecting” ideas.

Below you’ll find some more ways to connect with other bloggers. The possibilities are endless!

  1. Guest post on their blog.
  2. Donate funds to their cause.
  3. Link to their posts.
  4. Purchase their eBooks.
  5. Meet for lunch.
  6. Write a post with reasons you think they’re awesome.
  7. Write a post in response to one of their post questions.
  8. Answer emails timely and with care.
  9. Be genuine and be yourself.
  10. Disagree when necessary. Constructive criticism is healthy, and a valuable part of friendship.
  11. Share newly found resources and tools.
  12. Send and email to get to know them better.
  13. Send a gift through the mail.
  14. Use Skype and video chat.
  15. Be willing to help.

What’s the point?

Do all these things, and expect nothing in return.

You may be wondering at this point, “Why bother connecting with other bloggers?” The benefits are many, but the blogging community is very diverse in their reasoning for connecting with other bloggers. Some do it purely to gain traffic and recognition. Others hold real value and increase in their life from interacting with others.

Whatever your reason for connecting with bloggers – I think it’s important to remember something crucial. We’re all humans.

We all have different things that make us tick. Things that spark passion. Hobbies, backgrounds, families and more. Humanity has found, over thousands of years, that there’s a benefit to interaction. Your soul is fed, your spirits hightened and smiles are more likely.

Make an effort this week to connect. Connect with another blogger. Be a friend. Be a blogger. Be yourself.
